Components of Balanced Literacy

Reading Workshop: Mini-lesson, student reading time, mid-workshop teaching point, and a teaching share time. Other components include small group work, conferencing, and book clubs

Writing Workshop- Mini-lesson, independent writing time and a teaching share time

Word Study- Explicit Instruction of phonics, spelling, and vocabulary

Interactive Read Aloud- Reading strategies are modeled through the use of literature

Shared Reading- Method is used to teach concepts of print, word solving strategies, fluency, and help develop the earliest reading behaviors in Kindergarten and First Grade
